Lexington County Peach Festival
July 4, 2016 from 9 - 11AM
In our 58th year, the Town of Gilbert will host the Lexington County Peach Festival. It is recognized as one of the most successful and prestigious events of its kind in the southeast United States. Summer after summer in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, the community was alive with the harvesting, packing, and shipping of peaches. Today, while we find only a few peach farms still in operation, the peach remains (in our minds) the Queen of all Fruits and worthy of honor in our small town. Festivities kick off every year with the parade at 9:30 am and stretch into the night until 10:00 pm when we bring the day to a close with a dazzling display of fireworks. We hope you plan to spend July 4th with us as you enjoy live entertainment, the peachy and patriotic parade, over 100 Art & Craft Exhibits, antique car show, a Revolutionary War Re-enactment, tractor show, children’s rides, and many food items specializing in “Peachy” delights! Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival

Presented by Sustainable Midlands, the Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival is a celebration of locally grown food – the people who grow it, the restaurants who place it on their menus, the markets that sell it, and the people who eat it! Continuing its traditions of old-time festival fun, Tasty Tomato’s programming includes a free heirloom tomato tasting (4-7pm), live music on two stages, local food, a craft beer garden, tomato bobbing, and the highly anticipated Tasty Tomato Contest! Festival food will feature local restaurants serving local food with a tomato theme! Sustainable Midlands, a champion of the region’s sustainable food efforts and festival founder, is the producer of this celebration of the tomato and local food. 38th Annual Jubilee: Festival of Heritage
September 17, 2016 from 11AM - 6PM
Celebrating the rich cultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit of a local family, the Jubilee: Festival of Heritage is held annually in late summer on the grounds of the historic Mann-Simons Site. Jubilee features a variety of activities including hands-on demonstrations from some of the region’s most skilled artists and craftsmen, musical entertainment including African drumming, R&B, jazz, and gospel, and vendors with African-influenced and traditional merchandise. Highlights of the festival also include tours of the Mann-Simons Site, African-American heritage sites tours, and many other activities throughout the day. Riverbanks Zoofari

Irmo Okra Strut Festival
September 23 - 24, 2016
The 43rd Annual Irmo Okra Strut is scheduled for September 23 - 24, 2016. Enjoy a street dance on Friday night featuring headlining entertainers: Atlanta Rhythm Section. The Okra Strut Parade, South Carolina's largest parade, will be held September 24th from 9 - 11AM. Following the parade, enjoy musical entertainers, carnival rides, an okra eating contest and arts and crafts vendors. The Lexington Medical Center Irmo Okra Strut Festival is held in the NEW Irmo Community Park, conveniently located off of Lake Murray Boulevard at 7507 Eastview Drive in Irmo, SC. The City of Columbia’s Summer Movies Series will kick off on Friday, June 3 at Finlay Park, 930 Laurel Street. Movies will be shown on Friday nights from June 3 through July 29. The movies are free and open to the public. Pre-show activities begin at 7:30 p.m. Movies will begin at sunset. Attendees can bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers. Celebrate the summer with live music at Finlay Park during the City’s free Summer Concert Series. This year’s lineup will feature a variety of local favorites and national recording artists who will display their musical talents at the Finlay Park stage until August, according to the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. Performances will be held from 7 to 10PM. All concerts will be held in Finlay Park, 930 Laurel St. The concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs. No pets, glass or alcoholic beverages allowed. Food vendors will be available. For more information, please click here
